70 Years In The East Texas Oilfields

Arthur Squyres & Co. was established in 1931. During the Great Depression, Arthur Squyres set out to find a place to practice accounting where the resources were flowing.

He ventured to East Texas from Corpus Christi to tap into the beginnings of the East Texas oil fields. Settling on Tyler, he decided "to hang up a shingle in Tyler 'til he found something better". At retirement in 1976, he noted that he never found anything better.

Squyres was new to town, so he made his business contacts by frequenting the Blackstone Hotel where many oil businessmen gathered to swap stories. As a result, he learned his clients' business first hand.

Squyres quickly developed an expertise in the oil and gas industry and the word got around. Clients understood that Squyres was sincerely interested in what they did. Since that time, the firm has enjoyed a prestigious client base spanning many different industries and continues to employ some of the most qualified acountants in East Texas.

The firm was renamed Squyres, Johnson, Squyres & Co. in 1965, recognizing additional partners committed to providing superior service. Our history has provided a basis for how we presently serve our clients - providing quality professional service on a personal level. This belief is instilled in all Squyres staff. In fact, the firm has made many new partners in our history who share the same concern for each of their clients.
